This, our second CD, is taken from our celebration/concert on 24 January 2004 at the Westhaven Center for the Arts, in honor of Django Reinhardt’s birthday (23 Jan 1910). This was a sold-out, standing room only, two-set show with a break to celebrate and sing Happy Birthday to Django. What a hoot! Again, Dave remastered the recording made with Tami’s Mp3 recorder and while some of the tunes are repeats from our first CD, because it's a live recording, they are significantly different from how we played them on that CD and reflect how the band has grown between July '03 and January '04. This was our 'first real show where we were the only featured act, and the enthusiastic response really gave us a lot of excellent inspiration, as you will hear! - Rob Diggins

Out of the Shell is a remaster of a direct, from the board recording of our outdoor set at the August 2003 'I Block' benefit celebration for Arcata's sister city, Camoapa. It was an absolutely beautiful day that day, temperatures in the high-70's, a mild balmy breeze and lots of people enjoying themselves, hanging out with barbeque, etc. As usual, we were enjoying the freedom that live jazz performance requires - the willingness to take risks and follow through with your musical hunches. Above all else, have a blast and land on your feet no matter what! This is our first CD and in deciding to produce and release it we realized that if we can, we will always try to follow the precedent of only releasing our live performances. That way we can stay true to the philosophy that jazz never takes the same route twice and the spontaneous energy generated by the interaction between the band and the audience is captured there and then! - Rob Diggins
